The U.S. State of Washington (not to be confused with Washington, D.C. where lawmakers are probably miffed that they didn’t come with this idea) it was decided during the 1960’s that a tax should be imposed on businesses that offered patrons the “opportunity” to dance. Some business owners who operated establishments such as dance halls and taverns have complained that they have to pay the tax while larger venues like sports stadiums hosting concerts do not. Unless there are regulations that ban dancing in commercial locations, it would seem that just about any place large enough to move around in would give customers an “opportunity” to dance. Perhaps Washington lawmakers should eliminate the ambiguity in the law, or better yet, repeal it altogether as some businesses owners are proposing.
